On November 4, FPT Digital Consulting Director Vuong Quan Ngoc attended a scientific conference on the topic “Solutions for implementing digital transformation projects” at Central Military Hospital 108, proposing a transformation roadmap to resolve backlogs and improve the efficiency of medical examination and treatment at the hospital.

In his opening speech, Dr. Le Huu Song said: “Digital transformation is an inevitable trend, especially in the medical field. The need for digital transformation at Central Military Hospital 108 has always been of great concern. In order to support the hospital’s examination and treatment processes, the hospital wants to collaborate with both internal and external units. This cooperation will allow the hospital to grow further, simultaneously, and comprehensively.”
Regarding the current status of Hospital 108, Mr. Vuong Quan Ngoc commented, “The hospital has implemented technology, but it does so in a disjointed and manual way. It takes a long time to synthesize information because many processes are still manual. The hospital hasn’t, in a sense, fully utilized data to support both professional research activities and medical examination and treatment.”
At the conference, Mr. Ngoc inspired a way to do digital transformation right from the start, avoiding common “digitalisation traps” such as handing technology over to the IT department or approaching the program only from technology trends. Digitalisation traps could be understood as only following detailed functions of the software or the integration between the stages that the software brings. Along with the hospital board of directors, Mr. Ngoc also reviewed the important factors involved in transforming the hospital model from a conventional model to a digital model.
One of them is the goal of applying digital technologies to help hospitals build experiences throughout the entire process before – during – and after medical examination, in order to bring excellent experiences not only to patients and caregivers, health agencies, military insurance, civil insurance, related units, etc.; but also those directly involved in that process, including doctors, nurses, service staff, or coordination groups such as quality departments, general administration, and public service departments. medical supplies, etc. The hospital will be operated based on the integration of high technology, such as AI – Artificial Intelligence into image diagnosis to help doctors diagnose better as well as have better-supporting tools during the examination process.
Another important point, it is needed to meet the recommendations of the Ministry of Health in Circular No. 54/2017/TT-BYT on applying information technology at medical examination and treatment facilities on infrastructure, operating management software, hospital information management software (HIS), image diagnosis software (RIS-PACS), laboratory information software (LIS), criteria non-functional, information security and safety criteria, electronic medical record (EMR) software.
To solve these problems, a comprehensive digital transformation is an inevitable requirement. With many practical examples, Mr. Ngoc has proven that digital transformation will bring positive transformation to the hospital: improving medical examination and treatment efficiency; reducing worries about human resources; improving the connectivity of medical devices as well as improving diagnostics and pharmaceutical innovation.
According to Mr. Ngoc’s proposed digital hospital model, technology can assist physicians and patients at every stage of the conventional examination process while also enabling the development of new services like telemedicine, online medication ordering, artificial intelligence (AI) for symptom checking, applications for health education, remote therapy monitoring, etc. The hospital administration also concurred that careful survey design, the establishment of a foundational plan for the creation of a methodical roadmap, and the establishment of a 2024 deadline for finishing the foundation phase of the transformation are essential for the success of digital transformation.
