In the context of the Vietnamese government promoting digital transformation, particularly in the energy sector, through enacting policies such as Decision 893/QD-TTg approving the National Energy Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050; or Resolution Ref. 55-NQ/TW on orientations of the Vietnam’s National Energy Development Strategy to 2030 and outlook to 2045; many major goals have been set for oil and gas companies. One of these goals relates to downstream oil and gas sector, such as meeting 70% of domestic demand, providing around 175-195 million TOE (tonnes of oil equivalent) primary energy by 2030 and nearly doubled to around 320-350 million TOE by 2045, while at the same time, ensuring a minimum strategic supply reserve equivalent to 90 days of net imports. These goals will be achieved by digital transformation. Therefore, Vietnamese oil and gas companies have identified this as the “key” to optimizing performance, meeting the increasingly complex demands of the market, transitioning to green energy models, and contributing to future digital and green economy.

In Part 2, we provide an overall analysis from orientation to implementation methods as well as cautions for downstream oil and gas companies embarking on their digital transformation journey towards sustainable development, with details as follow.
