The movement towards ESG standards (Environmental, Social, Governance – a trio of benchmarks assessing aspects related to enterprises’ sustainable development) is a worldwide trend that is deeply related to a company’s core strategy and business operations. Notably, the Environmental facet stands as a primary indicator, showing how businesses manage and mitigate the effects of their operations on the environment, including their direct activities as well as the whole supply chains. Significantly, about 800 million jobs, constituting more than 25% the global workforce, and five key industries including agriculture, heavy industry, traditional energy, construction and transportation are most vulnerable to environmental factors.

The assessment of environmental issues within the ESG index helps the business identify risks and opportunities, fostering a positive brand image among consumers, investors, and the government. This enhances competitiveness and promotes sustainable development in the long run. Currently, multinational corporations are adopting adaptive strategies that place environmental factors at the forefront and making the right investments, especially in a number of industries such as renewable energy, green technology, and processing organic food.

In Vietnam, the trend of Green Transformation (GX) or the shift towards sustainable economic growth that moves away from reliance on fossil fuels and excessive consumption of natural resources is being pursued and actively researched by businesses. It is focusing on transforming to a circular economy, developing green human resources, renewable energy and applying green technology. According to this trend, what opportunities will Vietnamese businesses have and what challenges need to be overcome to achieve the aspirations of sustainable development, FPT Digital will analyze throughout the following reports.
