Notably, the Environmental facet stands as a primary indicator, showing how businesses manage and mitigate the effects of their operations on the environment, including their direct activities as well as the whole supply chains. Significantly, about 800 million jobs, constituting more than 25% the global workforce, and five key industries including agriculture, heavy industry, traditional energy, construction and transportation are most vulnerable to environmental factors.

The assessment of environmental issues within the ESG index helps the business identify risks and opportunities, fostering a positive brand image among consumers, investors, and the government.
